The artwork encapsulates the wonder and creativity of children when given the opportunity, tools, and guidance to create.

The front side of the mural gives nods to Ruth Asawa’s work as a multifaceted sculptor and as an overall explorative visual artist.

The other gives viewers a glimpse of ChiChai’s own journey as a teaching artist here in San Francisco– especially in SOMA Pilipinas, the Filipino Cultural Heritage District.

This is a celebration of not only Ruth Asawa but teaching artists advocating for youth today. In the words of Ruth Asawa, we must, “Pass it on so it is not forgotten.”
